So I don’t know if any of you all have noticed but lately ‘oil’ in the skincare world is a hot item right now. It’s funny because several years ago a ton of beauty products were all about being ‘oil-free’ because it had a pretty bad reputation. Back then, putting oil on your face seemed pretty counter-intuitive because we already have oils that our faces produce naturally. However, we are finding out that facial oil can have some pretty amazing benefits – ESPECIALLY those who have dry or flaky skin as it is the key to having a hydrated and soft face. If you’re not super keen on putting oil on your face you can always start small and put a little drop in your daily or nighttime moisturizer. That’s normally what I do and have seen a difference in my complexion because it looks so much brighter and my face is incredibly soft. Below are a few of my favorite oil based facial products.
So a few weeks ago I finally decided to give in and make an appointment with an esthetician and try dermaplaning. For those of you who don’t know what dermaplaning is- it’s a non-invasive procedure in which the top layer of dead skin cells gets scraped away as well as those teeny tiny vellus hairs (also known as peach fuzz). Before you ask- no the hair does not grow back darker or thicker. That is a MYTH! It grows back the exact same as it was before. By the end of the procedure your face is supposed to be smoother, brighter, and more youthful. Before/After pictures are below as well as my own personal review and FYI I did not use any filters, effects, etc. It’s the real deal!
So on a typical day I just swipe a few applications of mascara on my lashes and I’m good to go. However, if there is a special event coming up I like to take a little extra time to make my eyelashes look fabulous. I’m not a fan of false lashes because I tend to have dry eyes so if they water then the glue starts coming undone as well as my false lashes and its an absolute mess. So, after constant testing and researching different products I have the most perfect formula to get those gorgeous lashes!
Alright I’m having to change my format a little bit on this product review because of how many things I squeezed in this post so just bare with me! I honestly feel like applying make-up can be a breeze if you have the right tools. My husband and I travel a lot and there was one time where I forgot a lot of my make-up brushes. I ran into the nearest drugstore and just bought the cheapest brushes with no thorough research whatsoever (CRINGE). I could tell a MASSIVE difference when I was done applying my make-up. Nothing looked smooth or even which made my face look like a hot mess. It wasn’t up until that point that I realized just how important it was to have a good collection of brushes. Think of it this way.. you are an artist about to paint your face and for that you need the correct tools/brushes in order to achieve the perfect finished product, AKA your beautiful face!
Foundation: Beauty Blender
Ugh you guys I was SO awful to my skin in high school. I went to the tanning bed regularly and only wore tanning oil to the pool during the summer (with NO SPF might I add). Thankfully, years later I had an epiphany that I would look like a wrinkly leather purse when I got older. Skin cancer also runs in my family so I have to be extremely careful about protecting my skin. Also- huge shout out to spray tans. That is my go-to now for a healthy looking glow versus sitting under the sun for hours. However, if you are going to lay out by the pool this summer I have some sunscreens that I highly recommend!
So if you’ve been living under a rock lately let me fill you in about subscription boxes. They are a once-a-month delivery full of different surprises for whatever your interests may be. There are subscription boxes for make-up, dog treats/toys, snacks, lingerie, etc. I mean seriously.. you name it and there is a subscription box for it. As you can guess I’ve been testing out with different types of beauty subscription boxes such as Birchbox, Ipsy, and so on. When I discovered that Sephora had their very own box I added myself to the wait-list immediately. Several weeks later I discovered I was finally off the wait-list and signed up as quickly as possible. Upon receiving my first box I was more than impressed with all of the items. What stands out the most to me about the Sephora Play box is that they only choose the brands that they carry in their store so you can expect for everything to be higher end. As much as I loved my other beauty subscription boxes there were often times I would be disappointed in the items mainly because I could find them at any drugstore which isn’t a bad thing but you definitely get more bang for your buck when you sign up for Sephora’s box. I’m thinking this will from now on be my beauty subscription box along with my BarkBox subscription box for my sweet fur-children. Read below for reviews and subscribe here. read more
There is nothing more classic than a good red lip. It goes with every season and looks great on all types of different skin tones. There are tons of different shades which is why I’ve narrowed it down to four of my absolute favorites! There are a few tips to achieving the perfect red lip that I live by. You’re going to need to apply a good lip primer before hand (Get my favorite here). You’re also going to want a super small concealer brush & I put a little bit of Benefit’s Erase Paste on it and carefully blend it in around the lines of my mouth because when you apply your red lip or any color of choice next it will look so much more pronounced. (Concealer Brush here and Erase Paste here). Make sure you have a steady hand to apply the lip liner very precisely. Put a touch of make-up remover on a small q-tip so any mistakes can easily be fixed. I also lightly dab a little bit of setting powder (my all-time favorite here). on top to help it stay on that much longer. Ain’t nobody got time to reapply.
L to R: Diva, Icon, Kitten Heels, & Pirate.
MAC Matte Lipstick in Diva
Two years ago I found the most perfect wedding dress in the whole wide world. It was vintage, beaded, and was everything I had ever dreamed of. Right after I instantly started thinking about my make-up and I knew it HAD to be a dark red lip. I sampled what felt like hundreds of different dark red lipstick but when I tried on this one I knew instantly it was a winner. It was dark enough to do the job but not overpowering at all. It has hints of burgundy and is the most perfect shade of dark red I’ve ever laid eyes upon. I used primer underneath and it stayed ALL. NIGHT. LONG. I’m still to this day crazy about this color. Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Icon
If you want a deep, rich, cherry red lip look no further. I’m a very brand loyal person so straying away from my usual MAC lipsticks was kind of a big deal but when I sampled this in stores I knew I had to have it. Not only because of the color but how smoothly it goes on as well. They changed their applicator from a lipstick (pictured) to a now chunky pencil! It’s highly pigmented so you really only need one or two coats maximum which is great because it means the product lasts longer. It has blue undertones which make your teeth appear whiter (yay)! It goes on very glossy & shiny as you can tell from my swatch picture. This color is to die for if you’re planning on wearing white. It gives such a great pop of color! Get it here.
NYX Liquid Suede in Kitten Heels
If you’re in the mood for a matte lip I highly recommend NYX’s Liquid Suede line. I’m just going to be honest here but wearing and applying these feels the exact same as Kylie Jenner’s matte lipstick line and for 1/3 the price. The applicator is so precise that you really don’t even need a lip liner. I can’t stress this enough but if you’re wearing a matte lip I HIGHLY recommend using a moisturizing lip primer because it will help with the dryness and it won’t let your lipstick flake off after a few hours of wear. It’s an awesome product especially for the price! Get it here.
Chanel Allure Lipstick in Pirate
This is more of a soft, muted red so I think this is probably better for everyday wear. My favorite part about this lipstick is the formula they use. This is by far one of the longest-lasting lipsticks I own and my lips feel SO soft and moisturized all day that sometimes I don’t even use a lip primer beforehand because It almost feels like you’re wearing chapstick instead of lipstick. It has the teeniest tiniest hint of pink and it goes on evenly and the color is also build-able as well. Get it here.
